Sézane is one of my favorite brands at the moment, I truly can’t get enough of it from cardigans to tanks and swimwear. Think classic French girl style mixed with fun embroidered details and accessories.

Though, I’m a little late to the Sezane party because over the years I haven’t had any idea how the sizing ran. That combined with my laziness when making returns, I just browsed the site weekly and never made a purchase.

Sézane has its home base in France, but over the years has opened pop ups or “Apartements ” in the US. With the timely opening of the Sezane Washington, DC Apartement to make easy returns in store, I finally went for it and place my first order… once that first order arrived it was over for me and I have since bought about 10 pieces from Sézane.

Sezane Sizing Guide

Let’s talk about how Sezane runs because some people will say it runs small others will say it runs big and then that leaves us in this limbo of being like welp guess I’m not going to try it.

Both points of view are true – but hear me out….it’s because it depends on the TYPE of item that you’re purchasing. I also want to point out that the product description tells you whether to size up or down on most items. This has NEVER led me astray.

Below I’m going to break down sizing by category. Keep in mind, I’m only going to cover the categories of items that I own or have tried on. As I try more things, I’ll add them to this post!

What Size I Get

Generally speaking, I gravitate towards a size 34 or XXS in Sezane. I’m a size 00-0 (right in between) and typically wear a 23 in jeans.

I asked y’all on IG if I should keep or return it and everyone kept saying to keep it. At the end of the day though you have to go with what you know feels comfortable and that you’ll actually wear.

I haven’t given up on the Chlo shirt yet though! I think that it’s going to be great in one of the other fabrics – the purple would be a perfect fall TCU game-day outfit!

Sezane Size Guide for Tees & Tops

This may be the only category where I say size up. If 90% of the time I’m an XXS in Sezane, then I would say going with the XS is sizing up.

If you’re wondering what finally got me to make that very first Sezane purchase, it’s because of how much I fell in love with the white Cloe Jumper. The quality and fit was so good I made more Sezane purchases that day. Admittedly, had I seen this top on a hanger or folded in the store, I wouldn’t have thought anything of it. Once you throw it on, you’ll see how flattering it is.

The Cloe Jumper is so popular that the black has been sold out for MONTHS. Each time these get restocked, they fly off the shelf so I recommend setting an alert for it. Also, this doesn’t go on sale so if you see it in stock in your size, it’s not worth waiting.

I love a henley-style top which is what led me to the Theodora, and it’s the perfect shade of blue, similar to the hydrangea blue that I love from Hill House.

Sezane Size Guide for Knits

When it comes to knits, I didn’t follow my advice. I have two knit tanks, one is a halter the Ryan Top, and the other is a tank. Both are crochet-style knits that I love and make great Date Night tops.

The Ryan Top is my second favorite piece I won from Sezane (second to the Cloe Jumper). I got my most common size in Sezane (XXS) in this green top and it fits like a glove.

I panic chose the size for the Francisco top and I regret it. I got an XS in this black top instead despite the Sezane recommendation being to size down if in between sizes. I think I got it in my head that everyone always says Sezane runs small. It’s still definitely wearable but the other night I didn’t want to deal with the straps slipping so I took a Hermes scarf and tied them together in the back (shown below) to make it more of a halter top and the straps more fitted.

Sezane Size Guide for Swim

Sezane swim exceeded my expectations. Growing up, I never bought swimwear in Europe because of how much less coverage they had than European swimsuits. For that reason, I was a little apprehensive about Sezane swim. Honestly though, the coverage is about the same as most US swimsuits I tried on this year.

I went with the smallest size they had (size 2) with everything except the bikini bottoms. In hindsight the bikini bottoms I could have taken the size 2 as well but the 4 works perfectly fine with a teensy bit more coverage. It works because of the ties that can make it adjustable.

UPDATE: I got an email from Sezane that said the Chanson d’Ete swuimsuit in red could turn transparent in water. I haven’t same in it, only laid out so I haven’t had the experience but they’ve taken it down from the site and refunded customers.

Sezane Size Guide Dresses

I’ve only tried one dress from Sezane and it’s the Fabiola Dress. I was nervous to try this dress because I was worried it would be too long for me at 5’1″ but I’m really happy with it!

Sezane FAQ

How does the European sizing work?

I don’t own any Sezane items right now that are in the French / Spanish sizing but as someone who is an XXS / XS I would go with the 34.

How often does Sezane go on sale?

Sezane doesn’t often do sales and they sell out of their core collection of products fast. A few times a year they’ll do an Archive sale, but there are very limited sizes left. Shop the Archive sale as a bonus for fun, but not as a sale where you wait around to stock up on your favorite pieces.
